Mips, not MIPS

Our name should be written with a capital “M” and lowercase “ips” in almost all instances. The only exception is when our name appears in an all-caps context, in which case it is customary to capitalize and spell out “MIPS” in full.

Ready-to-go texts: Explaining Mips® safety system

With our small, medium, and large alternatives, you can choose the perfect length for your communication. Whether you want a quick overview or a detailed explanation, we have you covered. Our texts are carefully crafted to provide clear and concise information that is easy to understand, allowing your audience to learn about the Mips® safety system with ease.

Small

Ideal for a feature list on a helmet page or when explaining our function in a short timeframe.

Medium

This is a great summary of the added safety in many accidents and the dangers of rotational motion.

The Mips® safety system is designed to provide added safety for helmets in many accidents. For certain impacts, the Mips system can reduce harmful forces that might otherwise be transferred to the user’s head.

Large

A comprehensive text to explain the dangers of rotational motion and how our safety system works. This is a great text for a potential buyer selecting a helmet. Title

How does the Mips® safety system work?

Copy

The brain is typically more sensitive to rotational motion than linear motion because it has shear properties similar to water or gel. When different parts of the brain move relative to each other because of rotational motion, the tissues can stretch, which can cause concussions or other brain injuries.

Rotational motion is a common cause of concussions and more severe brain injury in oblique hits to the head. The Mips® safety system consists of a low friction layer mounted inside the helmet. In a crash, the low friction layer is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to help redirect forces away from the head. This is intended to help reduce the risk of brain injury.

Straight vs angled impacts

Traditional helmets are designed for straight
impacts, but most impacts are angled.

The low friction layer is designed to reduce
the rotational force of angled impacts.

The cerebrospinal fluid is our natural protection system that allows the brain to move relative to the skull.

A safety system that mimics the brain

Unlike traditional helmets, which are mainly designed and tested for straight impacts, the Mips® safety system’s low-friction layer mimics the brain’s own system for protection against rotational motion.

Digital hangtag

Using the digital Mips hangtag on your webshop’s helmet page is an easy-to-spot, easy-to-recognize graphic element, highlighting the additional safety system inside the helmet. The hangtag has two main versions: one with the call to action ‘Read more‘ and another without. This provides an effective way to link the hangtag, making it clickable for users to learn more about Mips on your dedicated Mips tech page.

Introducing our ‘Arc’

Mips® safety system – visualized from afar

Mips Arc

This graphic serves as a one-and-done graphic to further emphasize the inclusion of the Mips® safety system. It is particularly useful to subjects at a distance.

Examples of application of the ‘arc’

This asset is highly versatile and has both a light and a dark alternative that can be used depending on visibility.

  • Visibility

Consider the visibility of the arc when it comes to the image’s background.

  • Scale

Adjust the size of the arc in a way that clearly indicates that it is a graphic designed for the head or helmet of the subject.

  • Alignment

Align it so that it is perpendicular to the helmet it is meant to surround.
